The area is surrounded by myths and legend. Close by in a cave is the stunning rock profile of the sea god Poseidon. Also the nearby village of Maries is said to be named after the two Mary’s, Mary of Magdalene and Mary of Klopas.
According to tradition their ship dropped anchor at Porto Vromi and Mary Magdalene came ashore to spread Christ’s gospel. The footprint could be seen on the rock.
