    First time visitors

We are arriving late on 5th August for our first visit to Alykes (Seaview) - and judging by the enthusiasm on this forun can't wait.

Here's a question for you regulars then, you can only chose one answer per question:

    1) Must visit bar/restaurant for authentic Greek food.

    2) Must visit bar/cafe for Gyros

    3) Must visit site outside Alykes.

    4) Must do once whilst there - any category

    5) Must avoid at all costs

    6) Must visit for cold beer

1, several resturants we recommend are ( in no particular order ) :
    asteria
    paradisiako
    ambrosia
    fidelio

2, dont eat them so cant comment

3, the castle above zante town, the blue caves ( two brothers boat skinari or even better self drive boat from the valais (alykanas beach ))

    4, greek night

5, indian / chinese resturant in alykanas ( personal recommendation from previous bad experience )

6, virago bar, paradise pool bar and many others

hope this helps - any more questions i would be glad to try to answer - enjoy your hols

you are going to love it I am sure.

    1) Must visit bar/restaurant for authentic Greek food.-there are a lot of good ones, Asteria, Ponderosa, Anatalikosm Fantasia

    2) Must visit bar/cafe for Gyros- Paporo do a surprisingly good one

    3) Must visit site outside Alykes.- Windmills at Skinari (you can get the blue cave trip recommended above from near here)

    4) Must do once whilst there - any category- Tranaiki trip and Greek Night

    5) Must avoid at all costs- getting ripped by tour operator trips do locally booked ones instead

    6) Must visit for cold beer- buca bar, fab views, lovely food

On a seperate note there are two chinese/ indians in Alykanas and I would only recommend the Taj Mahal/ Chinese dragon, we have been eating here since it was way up the katastari road by koukanria. Lovely food etc,
Olympic is worth a visit as well for a different night out than traditional Greek
Booked for 26th September 2010 at The Roulla

I'm sticking to one in each category and it's difficult, but here goes.

    1. Restaurant
Fidelio at the crossroads. Newly opened this season, Super food and lovely (ex-Relax) staff. Everyone we spoke to who had eaten there was full of praise

    2. Gyros
Try Paolos the little place beside the road as you walk into the village. They serve good greek stuff too, the prices are as good as you'll find and the family and staff are really nice.

    3. Must visit
Any of the Greek Orthodox churches - the icons and gold are incredible.

    4. Do once
Have a swim in the sea at Xigia the sulphur bay.

    5. Avoid
Montes supermarket. Overpriced and depending on who's on the till youneed to watch your change.

    6. Cold beer
The Virago. It's an easy crawl back to SeaView.

Absolutely spot on! And if its the 'charming' older lady on the till she will prize ya fist open in a bid to get smaller change and avoid taking anything bigger than a 10euro note! Funny!

My views and my views only.

    1) Must visit bar/restaurant for authentic Greek food.

For me this is Paradisiako on the road out of Alikes. However my favourite eating place is the Olympic. Incidentally look at the menu beforehand and if anything is missing give him 48 hours and it’s sorted!

    2) Must visit bar/cafe for Gyros

Controversial this but for Gyros you could do loads worse than the tacky looking fast food plastic burger bar place at the crossroads of Zorbas and Dennis place!

    3) Must visit site outside Alykes.

If going on an organised trip then I suppose the Trainaiki. However for a cash free drive then it has to be the platform overlooking “Shipwreck Cove”

    4) Must do once whilst there - any category

This is an odd one for me. However the FLAG at a Taverna 200m from the lighthouse at Keri is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. The biggest Greek flag in the world and funny as it may seem it affected me.

    5) Must avoid at all costs

As said, the representatives trips. Do whatever you want locally. It is better, it is cheaper and it puts something back into the local economy!

    6) Must visit for cold beer

Anywhere that serves Draught Mythos for me. It’s a kind of one and all situation!!!

    Paradosiako

    2) Must visit bar/cafe for Gyros

The one near The Terrace - always full of locals so that's a good sign!

    3) Must visit site outside Alykes.

The windmill at Skinari - make sure you go down the steps and have a swim while you're there

    4) Must do once whilst there - any category

    The sunset at The Cross

    5) Must avoid at all costs

Any English food!!! That's a personal thing of course!

    6) Must visit for cold beer

Garden Bar - Petros and family are great

I'm travelling out on 5th I'm the one on my own with a book who people try and adopt - please say hi
